About this activity

Family Days Out were lucky enough to visit the New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum, and it really is a "must do" for anyone that visits the fabulous Big Easy.

This permanent staple of the city is a small but fascinating museum that is a great place to learn about the rich culture that shapes New Orleans, featuring two main rooms just jam packed with artifacts related to the history, from voodoo relics, paintings, sculptures, and more.

(Some of the displays contain alligator heads and real human skulls, so the youngest in the family might not like those bits!)

As soon as you enter the museum, you'll see a plethora or artifacts, along with information cards, that explain in more detail what surrounds you, and they are worth stopping to read. The history is fascinating.

Some of the highlights within the museum are personal artifacts relating to the Queen of Voodoo herself, Marie Laveau, including her kneeling bench. There are also explanations on the history of voodoo, including it's relationship to West Africa, and common misconceptions, which are really surprising.

Despite it's size, there is a LOT to take in, so just take your time, and make your way around the two main exhibit spaces slowly.

The Voodoo Museum also offer walking tours to the nearby St Louis Cemetery No 1, featuring the tomb of Marie Laveau herself, which is a great option to compliment your museum experience.

An experience that comes highly recommended from us here at Family Days Out, the New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum is a true iconic experience of the city, and one not to be missed!
