About this activity

Yee haw, we're about to have a family day out as exciting as the Old West, because we're at the Nelson Museum of the West! The Nelson Museum features 18,000 sq ft of exhibits (over 20 exhibits in fact!) that are dedicated to the preservation of fine Cowboy and Native American objects as well as fine Western art.

In fact, more than 6,000 objects in the museum's vast collection is dedicated to rodeo, cowboy and Native American objects.

Y'all ready to buckle up and get this rodeo started?

The exhibits within the Nelson Museum are just filled with fascinating information and historic artifacts, that a history book could never do it justice.

Kids can see trophy animals from six continents, and learn of the opulent lifestyles the early Cattle Barons of Cheyenne lived. You can see the culture and heritage of Mexico through clothing, spurs and saddles, and learn of the 19 separate and distinct Pueblos in New Mexico along with their farming life, basketry, pottery and more.

The Nelson Museum of the West has two major focuses when it comes to the collections of firearms in the Old West, either fine condition or historical significance, and their 300 + collection cover just that! You can even see authentic Winchesters, plus firearms from WWI and WWII.

From Eskimo cultures, Plains Indians, cowboys and more, the Nelson Museum of the West will transport you back to a time that has become iconic in US history!
