I attended the Coffee and Tea Festival here on Sunday, 6/5 on the Marine Parade Ground. But I am most proud of the long shipbuilding history, which dates back to 1876, when the Federal Street shipyard was closed. Between 1914 and 1970 alone 97 battleships, minesweepers, destroyers, and other warsips were built here. I’m very pleased that despite the failure to continue shipbuilding, the Navy Yard has been repurposed as the site of corporate headquarters (Urban Outfitters to name one), Tasty Kake baking: and that it has become a venue for many public and private events.

Was stationed here in the early 70’s this base was busy and lots of ships from Aircraft Carriers down to Navy tugs could be seen coming and leaving on the Delaware

This is one of my favorite ways to spend a day off reading in a hammock.
