The National Museum of Civil War Medicine is where you can go back into history, and follow in the footsteps of the surgeons and soldiers of the Civil War, and discover the harsh conditions that they would have faced, as well as the personal sacrifices they would have made.
Medicine has come a long way, and at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine you can also learn about the brilliant innovations of the times, and innovations that continue to save lives today!
The exhibits showcase artifacts devoted to the technological and procedural advances made in the medical field between 1861-1865, so just imagine what it was like on the battlefield, kids!.
The Museum weaves the narrative of suffering soldiers, caregivers, their families and the dramatic and innovative developments in medical treatment, to really allow you to gain a unique perspective.
At any given time the museum is able to display just a small fraction of the 5000 + artifacts they have in their collection, but never fear, because you can see an "Artifacts Revealed" video that highlights the objects not on display, and gives an insight into the interesting and unusual stories!
