The musk ox is one of the Arctic's oldest living species, and probably and animal you have never encountered before. Time to change that! Musk Ox Farm is a non-profit farm which is dedicated to the domestication of the musk ox.
Did you know that the musk ox was also an ice age mammal, that was roaming the earth at a time when the woolly mammoths and saber tooth tigers once called this planet home too? That's a pretty impressive feat! The Alaskan natives call these creatures "Oomingmak" which means "bearded one" - and when you see them, you will know why!
Musk Ox Farm love having visitors who want to get an up close experience with these magnificent creatures. They offer guided tours, along with fascinating exhibits so you can really learn all about these sweet animals.
The farm is from the 1930's, so you will get to experience them in that little bit of history too! The farm actually started back in the 40s and 50s when the musk ox were close to extinction, and the farm was part of a project to bring the numbers back up - and they have! A pretty amazing accomplishment!
Nestled in the Matanuska Valley, Musk Ox Farm has 84 animals for the family to experience. It really is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that the whole family will learn from, and also never forget.
Make sure you remember your cameras, because there will be a lot of moments that you will want to be capturing - have an amazing time!
