About this activity

The Mississippi is a fascinating state, and the Museum of the Mississippi Delta is the crossroads of art and history from the Delta. They have an amazing collection which has artifacts on agriculture, as well as on Native American history and culture, regional art history, and impressively one of the most extensive collections of regional art in the Delta!

Formerly known as "Cottonlandia", the Museum of the Mississippi Delta has a focus on the five "A's": can you guess what they are? They are animals, agriculture, antiques, archaeology and art. Did you get them all!

The museum has some amazing collections, like the largest collection of Native American trade beads in the whole of the Southern USA, as well as a room dedicated to the agricultural history of the Mississippi region. This exhibit shows off artifacts like blacksmith tools, plows, and mule hames.

There is furniture and artifacts from Malmaison, as well as a number of military history items. There is also a life-size diorama that you can walk through of a Mississippi swamp - complete with sound effects! Always a favorite with the kids, as is the nature room with very hands-on activities and ways to learn.

The Museum of the Mississippi Delta has a great history exhibit on the effect of war on citizens and veterans, and there is an actual Civil-War era cannon as well as a model of the battle!

Not only are there permanent exhibits which can become favorites, but also changing ones so there is always something new for you to go back to!

History comes back to life at this amazing museum great for the whole family!
