About this activity

Let's all explore the wonder of the Earth at the aptly named Museum of the Earth, and we better get started because there are a LOT of fascinating aspects to learn!

Museum of the Earth will take you on a journey through millions of years of history, through engaging displays, hands-on fun, science inspired art and stunning fossils.

With particular emphasis on New York State and the Northeast United States, the Museum of the Earth explores the history of the Earth and its life through the lens of geology and paleontology, utilizing collections from the Paleontological Research Institution's more than 3 million specimens.

Kids can learn all about the prehistoric past, from the tiniest trilobite to the might mastodon, and even unearth some of their very own fossils to take home!

Interested in that Mastodon? Well, the Hyde Park Mastodon as it's known, is one of the most complete skeletons mastodon ever found (so you might want your camera for that one!) Kids can also see a HUGE 44ft Right Whale too!

The Museum of the Earth also allows kids to watch real paleontologists uncover dinosaur bones in the Prep Lab, and go back in time 540 million years with a 500ft Rock of Ages, Sands of Time mural!

Don't miss exploring life in an ancient sea, with almost 3 million specimens (one of the largest in the USA!)

Along with the exhibits, the museum has special exhibitions, lectures, and family-friendly programs to add to your learning fun!

Kids, are you ready to journey back 540 million years? Get that sense of adventure ready, it's going to be one impressive journey!
