About this activity

The Museum of Rexburg was once known as the Teton Flood Museum, yet it still holds the same exhibits as before, so you can have just as fascinating time there!

The Museum of Rexburg was created to highlight those harrowing days before, and after, that infamous Teton Dam failure that happened back in 1976. This defined the community, and the family can explore the story through photos and artifacts, as well as curiosities.

Make sure you check out the 10 minute film where you can get a great idea of the history.

Each of the exhibits at the Museum of Rexburg offer something unique, and it's a great way for the older kids to learn about the history of the area, as well as the people who lived there. Younger kids might not relate to the exhibits as much.

The family can learn about the history of the Mountain Men, and those explorers in the area during the 1800s. What do you think the area would have been like then? Pretty different we imagine!

There is an exhibit on the Pioneer Heritage, and even a kitchen filled with furniture built by the Mormon pioneers in Salt Lake City.

There are historic firearms, and military displays that showcase those who fought in the armed forces over the years. Don't miss the bell from the USS Rexburg either!

You can read all about the first class to graduate from Madison High School in 1930, and historic farming techniques too!

Then of course, the exhibit on that flood that changed the course of the town.

So why not take the family on an educational and fascinating family day out, to walk through history and learn about the amazing people and events that shaped Idaho!
