Since its founding in 1975, The Carmel Clay Historical Society has dedicated its mission towards the study of Carmel and Clay Township’s history. CCHS encourages an appreciation for and understanding of the prairie settlement, 200-year growth, and development of the city of Carmel, while bringing historical programming, and educational enrichment to the lives of local citizens and visitors. The unique location, based out of the authentic 1883 Monon Depot Museum along the newly redesigned Monon Greenway, allows the Monon Depot Museum to present engaging and program offerings to the public. The museum hosts workshops throughout the year for children and adults involving train history, train interactions, art programs, activity based educational programs, dress-up events, storytelling, tours, and much more! In addition, the Monon Depot Museum houses a play area designated for children and picnic tables to enjoy meals on the porch and beautiful lawn, the giftshop offers children’s toys and books, as well as souvenirs for adults.
