The Mobile Carnival Museum highlights the history of Mardi Gras in its true birthplace!
Spend the day immersing yourselves in the rich history and traditions of carnival, and see first hand the intricate designs and artistry that went into the crowns, and scepters, and robes of the Mardi Grad monarchs!
Kid can marvel at the costume design and construction of the floats, and even see videos of actual parades and balls!
The pomp and pageantry of past coronations is also displayed within the Mobile Carnival Museum, and a historical pictorial gallery showcases photographs that date back to 1886!
There's hands-on fun as kids can climb aboard a rocking float and experience a behind the mask view of a street party!
So who knew there was SO much Mardi Gras history in Alabama, and next time you see people celebrating Mardi Gras all around the world, think about the Mobile Carnival Museum and go "I know where that originated!"

Docent led Tours are offered at 9:30 am, 11:00 am, 1:30 pm
Self- Guided Tours via On-Cell at your leisure between 9am - 4 pm.
There is a fun gift shop with some Mardi Gras worthy items, as well as gifts and souvenirs!
They offer school tours from 9am - 4pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Make sure you book in advance! They can immerse themeslves in the rich history and traditions of the carnival season and discover how Mobile became the birthplace of Mardi Gras. $3 per student for tours
The museum is wheelchair accessible on 2 of the 3 levels.
