About this activity

Love all things art? Then you have come to the right place, because we're about to tell you all about the Minnesota Museum of American Art, that actually began life as an art school back in 1927!

Then, in the late 1930s, art works were slowly being acquired for instructional purposes, and over time more art genres were collection, including additional paintings, works on paper, studio crafts and sculpture, expanding the collection and thus leading to it's creation as the Minnesota Museum of American Art in 1969!

Today, you can visit this amazing collection, and be inspired by some of the great works created by artists from right here in the USA!

The museum's collection consists of over 5,000 works that showcase the unique voices of these national artists, from the 19th century right through to present day.

Did you know that the museum houses the largest institutional collection of works by Paul Manship and George Morrison? Other notable American masters include Thomas Hart Benton and Louise Nevelson.

An art museum is a great place for children who are creative, have an interest in art, and love to express themselves. They can see art and discuss what they love and don't love about it - and there's no wrong answer!

They can be inspired, and even leave the museum and create their own masterpiece at home (and you never know, one day their artwork might be up on those very walls!)

The Minnesota Museum of Art also features changing exhibitions, so you can plan your next visit around something new to experience, and go back and see your favorites.

In addition to the collections and exhibitions, the museum offers programs and events, including the always fun Family Day filled with creative artist-led activities!

So why not delve into the wonderful world of art next time you are in the Twin Cities, and surround yourselves with creativity and artistry?

It's art-tastic!
