Just over 1,000 acres in size, the beautiful Magnolia Springs State Park in the stunning Peach State is best known for its crystal clear springs that flow at nearly 7 million gallons per day. That's pretty impressive isn't it!
It also happens to be the destination for some pretty amazing family days out too! If you love nature, adventure, wildlife, and the great outdoors, then this place might just be for you! (And yes kids, you will have to turn off those phones and video games to enjoy it - but it will be worth it!)
For those keen wildlife spotters, a boardwalk can be explored, allowing families to look for a host of species that call the park home, including alligators, turtles and other wildlife near the springs. A small lake is also ideal for fishing too. or you might prefer to take to the trails and hike.
If you want to extend your stay, you can with the cottages and a campground.
Of course, Magnolia Springs State Park is where kids can learn history too! Does that surprise you? Did you know that during the Civil War, this site was called Camp Lawton and served as “the world’s largest prison"? Pretty amazing!
Today, little remains of the prison stockade itself, but the earthen breastworks which guarded it may still be seen. In fact, back in 2010, Georgia Southern University archeology teams actually uncovered the stockade wall and numerous personal articles from soldiers! Artifacts are currently on display at the university and at the Camp Lawton museum located at Magnolia Springs State Park.
History, nature, wildlife, fun, adventure....could there be anything this Georgia state park can't offer? Only one way to find out!
