About this activity

Want to spend the day in 93 acres of amazing nature and historical sites that you can learn from? Then just head to the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum in Clapp Park!

This ever-changing park is the perfect place for the family to enjoy a slice of nature, whether you're enjoying a picnic, or walking along the trails and take in the sites and the smells.

The arboretum is home to a number of plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs, as well as a range of colorful butterflies, birds, and animals.

A number of birds nest on their grounds so check out their bird viewing facility with the feeding areas if you love birds too!

Within the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum there are a number of gardens that you can enjoy. The Hodges Rose Garden is a lovely experience to surround your family with gorgeous roses, and the Perennial Gardens around the Interpretive Center have a water feature, gazebo and lovely picnic area!

Kids in particular love the Sensory Garden, with a different bed for each of the 5 senses. Can you guess which one if meant for touch, taste, sound, sight and smell?

The arboretum was initially set up to test what plants and trees could survive in this West Texas environment, and many didn't survive, so it's a great learning experience for kids about horticulture and nature....maybe it will even inspire kids to plant some seeds of their own in their home!

For nature, picnics, and a place to learn and play, head to the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum where you can have a relaxing day as a family surrounded by pretty colors and amazing nature!
