LSU Museum of Natural Science

The LSU Museum of Natural Science was founded all the way back in 1936, when a few study specimens of birds were assembled in a classroom in Audubon Hall. 

Today, this great family friendly museum on the campus of the Louisiana State University has continued to expand and is currently one of the nation's largest natural history museums, with collections of over 2 1/2 million specimens - now THAT is impressive!

Throughout the museum you will find a number of exhibits that tell the rich and fascinating story of Louisiana's past and present.

You can learn all about threatened and endangered species that live within the state, with dioramas to help children learn about their vanishing habitats, as well as learn about how the wetlands are disappearing, threatening the state's heritage, wildlife and economy.

What's great about exhibits like these, is that not only do they outline environmental issues within the state, but offer kids a chance to learn how THEY can help fix it!

Also at the LSU Museum of Natural Science is an exhibit showcasing regions of the world, from the grand Rockies to the dry sands of the deserts. You can explore the rainforests of Central America, and learn how the temperatures and the environment all work in harmony together,  and of course uncover all of the various wildlife you would find in these varying landscapes.

Kids can journey to the glaciers of Antarctica, and explore Native American history within Louisiana, and even make a splash with the local fishes!

There is so much to see and learn at the LSU Museum of Natural Science, you might just have to visit for yourselves!
