About this activity

It's time to step back in time to the 19th century, and learn all about the history of the Ingalls Family at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum!

Does that name sound familiar? Well, it should, because Laura Ingalls Wilder was an American writer best known for the Little House on the Prairie series of children's books, that were published in the 1930s and 1940s.

The books were based on her childhood in a settler and pioneer family, and were later made into a TV series of the same name. Throughout the museum collection you can see artifacts from Laura Ingalls Wilder's actual life, including a quilt owned by her and her daughter, a Bible from the church the Ingalls attended and a number of historic documents.

The museum's collections are housed in a series of fascinating buildings, including an 1898 depot, a chapel, and an onion-domed house.

There's a dugout display to see, and even a little red schoolhouse - you can just imagine what school life would have been all those years ago!

Kids can explore settler life even further in the early settler home, complete with covered wagon display.

For those fans of the TV show, you can see memorabilia on display, as well as looks at visits by the stars from the "Little House on the Prairie" TV series themselves.

Also on display at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum is the Kelton Doll collection, featuring more than 250 dolls that date back to the 1870s, right through to present day.

The Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum offers a fascinating insight into early settler and pioneer life, so why not step back in time and experience it for yourselves?
