About this activity

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park is a fascinating place to visit with the family, because it doesn't just have 6,000 amazing acres to explore, as well as a host of outdoor activities, but it also has a fascinating history that kids can learn all about.

Want to know more? Great, because we'd LOVE to tell you!  Lake Fausse Pointe State Park was actually part of something called the Atchafalaya Basin, and the area that is surrounding the park was actually the former home site of the Chitimacha Indians.

There's more! All the way back to the middle of the 1700s, the area was actually dominated by the French and Acadian farmers (with a few years belonging to the Spanish) - bet you didn't think that a state park could be so interesting did you?

It was actually this period that there were a large amount of immigrants coming to the area, which lucky they did because Louisiana wouldn't be as culturally diverse as it is now if it wasn't for them!

Don't worry, we haven't forgotten about the outdoor adventures! Fishing, canoeing and boating is abound at the park. There is a boat launch where families can have easy access to the adventures that could be had in the labyrinth of waterways through the Basin.

Wanting to extend your family day out? Those who want to stay overnight can "rough it" in the campground, or there are lake-front cabins that you can have a bit more comfort in.

The park is actually on the edge of an incredible water wilderness, so it's the PERFECT point where the family can start to explore the cultural and natural heritage of South Louisiana - it's also a great place to use as a base to get into the historic site of the nearby towns.

Talk about saving the best ’til last - there's also a water playground!

You're welcome!
