About this activity

Are you ready for some history, kids? Well, get ready to be immersed in it because we are about to explore Walla Walla's oldest mansion, Kirkman House! Today, this historic icon is now an intriguing museum where you can step back in time and learn all about the history of the house, the people who lived there AND what life was like over 100 years ago!

Early Walla Walla and the Kirkman family story are showcased through permanent and temporary exhibits and events with period artefacts and heirlooms adding to the atmosphere.

Kids, what do you think life would have been like from the 1970s to early 1900s?

The era in which the Kirkmans lived was a time of great prosperity and change, so it really is a fascinating period in history to study.

You can even look at the old map and see what has disappeared, and what still stands today. It will bring a whole new perspective to when you are walking around the modern streets!

Kids can also learn how an English textile salesman made his fortune in the burgeoning Wild West, completing his grand family home in 1880. You might just be inspired too!

So experience the Kirkman House Museum and immerse yourselves in the Kirkman era in Walla Walla!

History has never felt so real.
