About this activity

Ring ring...can you get that kids, it might be the Jefferson Barracks Telephone Museum calling!

Yep, head to St. Louis and you can take a trip down memory and experience the history of the telephone - something we take for granted today, but it wasn't always mobile phones and Snapchat!

At this fascinating museum, you can see vintage equipment as well as memorabilia from the days when people used public phone booth, or connect to operators and even crank handles to make the call!

The building itself is worth spending time looking at too. Built in 1896, and beautifully restored, it now features that extensive collection of some pretty amazing artifacts!

The Jefferson Barracks Telephone Museum is a self-guided museum, and those kids who love science and how things work will get a kick out of seeing the many hands-on displays, where they can see first hand how some of the phones used to operate.

You can see military phones from WWI, and operator switchboards from the 1920s! There are even phones from the late 1880s!

If kids have an interest in history or engineering, this museum is for them too!

Want to know something else cool about the museum? The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places, so you know it's going to be pretty cool!

So kids, who you gonna call? Nope, not the Ghostbusters - the Jefferson Barracks Telephone Museum!

You rang?
