About this activity

Man those winches, hoist those sails and get ready to set sail into the fascinating world of Jacksonville's history! The Jacksonville Maritime Heritage Center is ready to give the whole family a nautical day out together!

The beautifully laid out Maritime Museum hosts a variety of displays that tell the stories from the present day all the way back to the arrival of the French in 1562.  (If you just learnt that fact, that's only the beginning of what you'll learn at the museum!)

The museum makes it fun to learn.  There are shop model on display including US Naval destroyers and even a German WWII submarine.  There is also an impressive 15ft model of an aircraft carrier, a diploma of a Civl War transport ship, and even a diorama of the now infamous RMS Titanic!

Kids will love the hands-on exhibits, where they can really immerse themselves in the history, as well as a fun play area.

There are some really interesting and unusual artefacts too - such as super old submarine helmets, and original ropes, clocks, and navigational pieces from the years gone by.

There is a great historical section on the city of Jacksonville itself.  When you have finished at the museum, imagine what the city was like hundreds of years ago as you walk round later in the day!

Welcome Aboard!
