About this activity

Are you ready to explore Upper Michigans largest outdoor museum? Welcome to Iron County Historical Museum! This historic museum spreads out over 20  buildings that you explore, from a turn of the century schoolhouse, to an art gallery!

The Lee LeBlanc Memorial Art Gallery explores the incredible career of (you guessed it) Lee LeBlanc, who had an incredible career as a Hollywood motion picture animator, Art Director for MGM, and artist for 20th Century Fox! Over 200 pieces of his work are on display, and you might just recognize a few of them!

Heritage hall contains several of the flags that represent countries from which ethnic settlers came, or you can explore the Log Cabins, featuring a number of historic log buildings including a Playhouse, Homestead Complex and Logging Camp!

Can you imagine living in structures such as these?

Make sure you check out the Pioneer School too, built in 1896 and gives an insight into schooling life towards the end of the 19th century - we bet it's pretty different to the schools you are used to today!

Also at the Iron County Historical Museum is the Carrie Jacobs-Bond home, home to that iconic pianist and songwriter who composed nearly 177 pieces of popular music from the 1940s, as well as the Mining Memorial Hall, dedicate to those killed in the mines, as well as all the employees of the Iron County mining companies

A fascinating day into the incredible rich history of Iron County, so why not delve into the history books first hand at this impressive museum and grounds?
