History comes alive at the Hesston Steam Museum, where REAL steam locomotives can take you on a spectacular two and a half mile journey through the Indiana landscapes, through the deep woods, past the sparkling lakes and alongside farm fields!
There are three railroads at the Hesston Steam Museum, and each of them have their very own story! Their largest locomotive is the Shay type, that once hauled logs out of the mountains in the West.
The vintage Kiddieland is the medium sized locomotive, and once provided entertainment in amusement parks during the 1920s, and right through to the 1970s!
The smallest one can take your family through the woods and on a bridge route that is perfect for kids of all ages - get those conductor hats at the ready!
The Hesston Steam Museum itself is filled with other steam powered machinery including a steam-powered saw mill, a railroad steam crane, steam powered electric power plant, AND a steam traction engines and more, all to educate visitors on the amazingly rich railroad history!
You can even visit a rustic blacksmith shop that was indispensable back in the early 1900s. Open over various days throughout the operating system, it really gives kids a chance to imagine what life was like over 100 years ago!
