Where are we going?

Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum
1919 9th St
AL 35040

What is there to do?

Grab those conductor hats kids, because we're off to the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum to enjoy a day surrounded by incredibly railroad history AND real locomotives too!

The museum features operating both standard gauge and narrow gauge trains, as well as two restored depots, an indoor collection of railroad artifacts and memorabilia, AND an outdoor collection of railroad cars, locomotives, and cabooses - phew!

The rolling stock and equipment collection contains pieces that date to all the way back to as early as 1890, right through to 2005, so you really are taken back through the history books.

Kids can see ordinary pieces such as cabooses, to the unique including club cars, passenger coaches and a rare domed observation car!

There are Steam Locomotives, as well as Diesel, and Freight, and of course Passenger cars. Then you have those two restored railroad depots that were moved from their original locations in Calera, Alabama.

Then of course, you have the train rides (and what would a visit to a railroad museum be without one!) The themed rides are always fun for kids, like the Cottontail Express, Day Out With Thomas, and Superhero Express. Don't miss the special occasion rides too, from the Fathers Day and Mothers Day, to the fun Pumpkin Patch Express and Santa Special!

Choo Choo! The train is about to depart kids, so let's all jump aboard for this day of locomotive fun and history at the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum!

How much does it cost?
