Immerse yourselves in the rich Hawaiian history at the Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site. Here, you can see three restored houses, and one of these happens to be the oldest Western-style house in Hawaii, so it's a pretty unique experience!
It will be like you're stepping back in time, as you catch a glimpse of what life was like in the 19th century (we bet it's pretty different to what you know today, kids!)
The Frame House dates back to 1821, and is the oldest wooden structure still standing in the Hawaiian islands (it came from Boston in 1820!), and the Chamberlain House dates back to 1831, and was built using coral blocks that were cut away from the ocean reef. Pretty amazing!
During your time at this historic site, you can take a family tour, hear a story from the past, try out historical activities, or make something to take home!
Each month on Kamaaina Family Day, the Mission Houses Museum offers a themed experience for everyone in the family, so kids can really get involved and enjoy an interactive day of learning.
There are also public programs that include historic house tours, lectures, family days, workshops, backpacks, teas, exhibitions, and special events.
Each brings the museum's story to life for visitors, offering a really fun, educational and fulfilling experience! It's also been on the National Historic Landmark Register since 1965.
Don't miss jumping on one of the hourly tours, it will add so much more to your day!
