It's a day out in New York City surrounded by fascinating history, inspiring art, and stunning architecture. Yes, we're off to the Guggenheim Museum.
This iconic museum is not only filled with exhibitions showcasing some truly inspiring artworks, but the building itself was designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and is often seen to be his greatest masterpiece, so as soon as you walk through the door your adventure will begin!
The collections themselves within the Guggenheim Museum fall into two categories: the ongoing and the temporary. Not only can you keep going back to see your favorite permanent fixtures, but there might just be something else new to explore too!
Kids who have an interest in art will particularly get something out of this day out. They can learn that art comes in all forms, such as sculptures, drawings and photography. It's not just about the paintings. They can also be creatively inspired by the colors, techniques and thought behind the works.
There are works by the iconic Picasso, as well as sculptures from Brancusi.
If it is the architecture that you love, there are public tours focused on just that among the daily Art in the Around led by gallery educators. It's an invaluable experience for those interested in learning about Wright's design, as well as the museum collection and special exhibitions.
The museum's great rotunda has been the site of many celebrated special exhibitions, while its smaller permanent galleries are devoted to it's own renowned collection, which ranges from Impressionism through contemporary art.
Suited towards the older kids, the Guggenheim Museum is a New York landmark that should be visited at least once.
