About this activity

Choo Choo...we're off to the Gold Coast Railroad Museum which brings the history of the railroad back to life - in the form of very cool exhibits and a really fun train ride!

If you love trains, then you would love seeing all the different models of trains from across the years. You can get right up close and explore them too!

The collections are vast, and cover a whole range of makes for you to learn about. There are passenger cars, including some that were actually used in the war. Do you know the different between the non streamlined and the stainless steel cars? You soon will!

There are also several steam and diesel locomotives on display - and even in operation! The "Silver Crescent" California Zephyr is one that you can actually go in and explore, and the very cool model railroads cover a number of scales so you can really get a birds eye view of the tracks!

The Model Railroad is a popular exhibit with kids, because it's super hands on, and of course Thomas the Tank Engine makes an appearance! There are several wood train sets that the kids can actually play with, and a room for the adults to supervize from so parents - put your feet up and watch your kids play!

What would a railroad museum be without a real train ride too! The Gold Coast Railroad Museum offers fun trail rides on the Edwin Link Children's Railroad, on weekends. Don't be put off by the name - it's for adults too! For 20 minutes you can ride the 2 foot gauge track, and you can even enjoy it for birthday parties too!

For those families that are train lovers, then the Gold Coast Railroad Museum might be your place to be!

The museum is a non profit organization, so they rely on admission and donations to keep it going. They love their trains and want to share them with you!

You can take tours of the museum too - 11am and 2pm weekdays, and 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm weekends.

Give them a call about group rates because it's a great education for the students and they will love the train ride too!

It never hurts to take a bottle of water in with you to keep you hydrated - but just check which areas you can drink in

If you do have special needs, just check what accessibility there is before you go - they will be happy to help!

If you love the museum and want to help support it, you can become a member! You can get individual or family membership, and that gives you free admission for a year among other things.
