Glacier National Park is known as the "crown of the continent" - and when you visit you will see why! You and your family will be surrounded by some of the most incredible scenery in the entire country, and we're excited to tell you about it!

This Montana wilderness is filled with rugged mountains, alpine meadows, pristine forests, and amazing lakes. Grab those comfortable shoes because there are over 700 miles of trails to take on! 

It's a hikers paradise, as well as any family who LOVES an adventure! Glacier National Park is perfect for any family who loves some solitude, and it will introduce kids to a whole new wilderness experience that they will never forget!

History is right in front of you too - as you can relive the days through old historic chalets, as well as lodges, and you can hear and live the stories of Native Americans, so an important cultural experience for everyone. 

The Going To The Sun road is an experience that everyone should have whilst in Glacier National park. During your time there you can also enjoy a ranger-led walk or talk to learn some interesting facts about the areas, and the Discovery Cabin is the best place to learn all about the park's wildlife and plants that call it home.

If you wanted to really make an adventure out of it, there are 14 frontcountry campgrounds for you to stay in - which gives you more time to enjoy the guided horseback trips that are available!

Glacier National Park is a magical experience for the family, especially the kids. A true wilderness experience in a stunning part of the USA!

Glacier National Park is located in the northwest corner of Montana along the spine of the Rocky Mountains.

By Car
Visitors arriving by car will use U. S. Highway 2 to access the park from either the east or west. Visitors can also access the park from the north using Highways 89 or 17.

By Plane
Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell, Montana is 25 miles west of park headquarters in West Glacier, Montana. There are also airports in Great Falls, Montana (200 miles east of West Glacier) and Missoula, Montana (156 miles south of West Glacier).

Car rentals are available at airports. Shuttles are available at the Kalispell airport.

By Train
Amtrak services both East Glacier and West Glacier. Glacier Park Inc., provides a shuttle service at these locations. Please call them at 406-892-2525 for more information.

Glacier National Park FAQ’s

Glacier's western valleys generally receive the most rainfall. Daytime temperatures can exceed 90 degrees F. It is frequently 10 to 15 degrees cooler at higher elevations. Strong winds and sunny days predominate on the east side of the park. Overnight lows throughout the park can drop to near 20 degrees F, and snow can fall anytime. In August of 1992, a foot of snow fell on the northeastern corner of Glacier. Prepare for a variety of conditions and pack accordingly. You may start the day in a T-shirt and shorts, and need a parka by evening. Dress in layers. Always bring raingear.

There are actually a number of stores and restaurants throughout the park! From snacks to full sit down dinners, there is plenty!

The park participate in the free-fee days, so check the holidays and weekends where you don't have to pay!

Check out the general stores because there are lots of little bits and pieces for you to take home!

With the amount of restaurants and stores, there are plenty of healthy options to you to pick from!

The landscape can prove difficult for wheelchairs, so you can always call the NPS and ask them what experiences you can have
