What is there to do?

Gari Melcher was one of the most successful painters of his time, so naturally he was sought after by the rich and famous!

Now, you can visit his life and home at the Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont.

Take a trip through history at the home of Gari and the beautiful young art student that he fell in love with. After meeting on an ocean liner, they spent their years sharing art. What a wonderful story!

Now, more than 100 years later, their legacy lives on and you can learn all about it - right in the very house it happened! Be part of the story!

The historic home dates back to at least the 1790s, but the lost deed means we will never know exactly when it was built - a little mystery in your excursion!

The home has an incredible history, with involvement in the Civil War, to numerous families growing up within it, and adding to the structure.

In addition to the home, you can tour the art and studios, where the magic happened. It also serves to showcase Melchers art, with around 1600 items in total to explore!

The Gari Meclher Home and Studio isn't just an interior experience. There are beautiful restored gardens, as well as trails that you can spend some time enjoying. Just imagine who might have walked the same trails with you over the last few hundred years - it's fun to think about!

History, nature, art...all ready to give you a fascinating experience on your family day out in Virginia! You never know - it might even inspire you to get creative!
