Celebrate the wonderful world of minerals, plus history, nature & science at the Franklin Mineral Museum in New Jersey. Here, you can learn all about how minerals and mining history shaped out lives, and changed the way we live!
Franklin Mineral Museum features over 4,000 mineral specimens on display, including a 33ft long room filled with fluorescent minerals! It's quite a dazzling spectacle!
Kids can explore minerals that are local to the area (and some might surprise you!), from local zinc or minerals, as well as fine examples of minerals that made the region famous!
The museum also features American Indian artifacts and stone tools, made by the Lenni Lenape Indians are were the earliest inhabitants of what later became New Jersey.
There are even display cases with artifacts from all over the US and Mexico showcasing just how important minerals were to cultures, with examples of stone axes, drills, spear points and even carved figurines!
Yep - all made with minerals!
Don't miss a trip to the Fossil Room either, home to one of the best petrified wood displays in the state, as well as planet, marine and wildlife fossils found in the region. This includes cave bears and mastodons!
There's great hands-on fun for the kids at Franklin Mineral Museum too, with two collecting areas where you can try and go out and find your own minerals!
