About this activity

Flavel House Museum is not just special because it allows you to step back into the 19th century, but it was also one of the survivors of the fire that raged through downtown Astoria in 1922.  In fact, it's one of the best preserved examples of Queen Anne architecture in the entire Northwest!

built in 1884-84, Flavel House was built by Captain George Flavel, who made his fortune as a river bar pilot and real estate. Today, the home as been restored to accurately portray the elegance of the Victorian period, AND you can learn all about the history of the Flavel family too!

The home is around 11,6600 sq ft and features two and a half stories, as well as a single story rear kitchen, a basement, and a four-story tower - because why not!?

The best place to start your experience at Flavel House Museum is at the 1887 Carriage House, which today serves as the Visitor Center, as well as museum store plus exhibits showcasing the history of the house.

Then, take a self-guided tour around the various floors and just imagine what life would have been like towards the end of the 19th century!

When you visit, check out the six unique fireplace mantel that feature imported tiles from ALL around the world!

Covering an entire city block (yes, you read that right!), Flavel House Museum is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places so you know it's going to be impressive!

It's history come to life in Astoria!
