About this activity

Rising 1267 feet above the Belle Fourche River, Devils Tower is one of the most iconic natural wonders in the USA, and it's a great place to visit for the family on your next day out!

Devils Tower is an astounding geologic feature that protrudes out of the very impressive prairie that surrounds the Black Hills. There is a rich history to it, and it's actually considered sacred by Northern Plains Indians and indigenous people.

Kids - look closely at the tower. Can you spot the hundreds of parallel cracks all along it? If you're feeling active when you're older, you can actually climb these! In fact, it's one of the most popular crack climbing locations in the entire North America.

Did you know that Devils Tower was once hidden? Since then, erosion has weathered away the surroundings, and it now features within a 1347 acre park that is covered with pine forests, woodlands, and grasslands.

President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed Devils Tower the first national monument in 1906, and just as well because it means that families just like yours can visit this amazing monument.

Keep an eye open for the adorable prairie dogs too!

A part of US history, movie history (kids, do you know which one I'm talking about?) and natural history!
