About this activity

Let's get lost in the world of art! The Detroit Institute of Arts has 658,000 square feet of amazing art to be learned from and enjoyed.

The museum has over 100 galleries to explore, all of which can introduce children to the various types of art that can be found.

It's a great way to begin conversations about what they think art is, and perhaps even inspire them to create something amazing.

The exhibitions at the Detroit Institute of Arts covers art from all over the world, so they will be exposed to different cultures and art styles. It's the best type of education!

The range of the galleries is immense and children will enjoy picking out images which they do and don't like, with older kids able to appreciate the scope of the collections. Perhaps you will be exploring famous artists like Rembrandt or Frida Kahlo, or perhaps you will be looking at a puppetry collection!

The Detroit Institute of Arts has a host of other family experiences that you can enjoy together. What about some world music on Friday nights? It's FREE with admission. What about Family Sundays where you can just take in the performances, workshops, and enjoy some story telling. What a great day to spend together!

If you do have children who are inspired, then check out the drop in workshops where kids can create, and make!

Guided Arts Tours, Art Talks, Art Workshops and Special Exhibitions are all available, and worth the modest surcharge to get the most of the visit.
