You can read about history in books, but then you can actually EXPERIENCE in person when you visit attractions such as Conner Prairie Interactive History Park!
This incredible historic experience in Indiana is over 1400 acres of historic fun. In fact, there are five historic areas, as well as a modern museum
The themed areas that you can enjoy are Lenape Camp, Conner Homestead, 1836 Prairietown, 1859 Balloon Voyage and 1863 Civil War Journey: Raid on Indiana. In each area "look, don’t touch" becomes "look, touch, smell, taste and hear” as you live history first-hand!
Within these areas, you can have incredible experiences. You can immerse yourself in a 19th century village, and learn the routines of life back in 1836. Kids can even interact with animals, and study in a one-room schoolhouse! We imagine the school is much different from the ones you are used to today!
Kids can learn about the 1863 Civil War Journey, where you will cross a covered bridge, and step into Dupont shortly after the raid of 1863. You can just imagine what it would have felt like to actually be there in person.
Explore 200 beautiful, wooded acres and discover fun daily activities, themed days and exciting ways to experience the past with your family. Don’t miss the Animal Encounters Barn where you can get up close with your favorite farm friends!
Adventure awaits you inside the Welcome Center with Discovery Station - the year round play and learning area built JUST for kids!
Don't miss the Craft Corner either, where you can learn a fun new skills, and create a take-home craft!
From soap making, to using an antique printing press, or even weaving, it's a great chance for kids to try a completely new skill!

Conner Prairie Interactive History Park FAQ’s
There is a seasonal cafe that opens March, where you can enjoy foods like pretzels, frozen custard, pizza flats and more!
There are different activities to enjoy each season, so make sure you check out what there is to do so you don't miss out!
Take home a taste of Conner Prairie, shop for unique gifts and browse books, games, toys, Prairie clothing and so much more. The Conner Prairie Store offers a local shopping experience where you can find old-time candy, locally-made preserves, retro games, and jewelry too. The store is located in the Welcome Center and no admission is required to shop.
At Conner Prairie, the Indiana history you read about in text books becomes a vibrant learning experience full of activities for students and teachers to see and do. You can talk with the potter, feel the heat from the blacksmith’s forge, play games with the local pioneer children and help with the farm chores.
Their programs cover a wide variety of Indiana academic standards including inter-disciplinary curriculum for every grade level. Subjects including social studies, language arts, math and science are all incorporated into your visit.
They have deli sandwiches at the cafe!
The Welcome Center is fully accessible to wheelchairs. Most, but not all, of the historic buildings are accessible too. But there are staff there to help
At The Apple Store treat your family to deluxe caramel apples, cider slushies, and apple-themed gift items. Don’t forget to take home a bushel of crisp Indiana apples! Proceeds benefit Conner Prairie’s educational mission. Open September to November. No admission ticket required.
