There are some pretty incredible sights in the USA, and one of them is certainly the spectacularly natural Cathedral Caverns State Park. Opened to the public since the 1950's, the caves have been a popular place for families to visit ever since.
The first thing you will notice when you arrive at the Cathedral Caverns is the MASSIVE entrance! Much like cathedrals that we know today - now you know where the name comes from too!
The entrance is an enormous 126 feet wide and 25 feet high - how amazing is that? AND it gets better...inside the actual cavern are some of the most amazing formations nature has created! The "Goliath" is possibly one of the largest stalagmites in the entire world, coming in at 45 feet tall and 243 feet in circumference.
From Big Rock Canyon to Mystery river, and of course that amazing Frozen waterfall, it really is an impressive sight that kids will just be amazed by!
Due to safety, you have to access the cave with a tour guide, but that only means that you can have all those questions answered that you have always wanted to know.
Cathedral Caverns State Park is more than just caverns. There are fun activities for kids, including panning for gems - and they get to keep what they find! The park also have camping, so you can always extend your stay if you are having TOO much fun!
So get those walking shoes ready for a day out in this amazing Alabama state park - mother nature is waiting to show off her work to you!
