About this activity

Saint Augustine is one of the most amazing cities in the USA, because it's the FIRST city in the USA. Which means there is a host of history within it to explore, and Castillo de San Marcos could just be the most significant!

Castillo de San Marcos is a monument not only of stone and mortar but of human determination and endurance. It symbolizes the clash between cultures which ultimately resulted in the USA's uniquely unified nation.  Today, it is still resonant with the struggles of an earlier time, and families can explore the original walls that provide tangible evidence of America’s grim but remarkable history.

An incredibly historic day out for the family!

Castillo de San Marcos embodies nearly 450 years of history and culture that can not be fully experienced in a single visit.

Kids can become a junior ranger during the visit to this amazing monument, with those aged 6 to 12 can pick up a booklet at the kiosk at the front entrance. They can read exhibits and view the movie in the Theater or take the self-guided tour.

They can even attend a ranger talk or demonstration and ask questions. Then complete the activity sheets in the booklet. Completing all the activities in the booklet will earn children a certificate of completion and an official Junior Ranger Badge from the site!

A fascinating day out surrounded by some of the earliest history that we know about the USA - and THAT is pretty impressive!

Make sure to bring something to eat with you and some water to stay hydrated.

Visitation is lowest from the middle of September through late November if you want to visit when crowds are smaller

Because the fort was built for warfare and not public touring, accessibility is limited due to the fact that the structure needs to be preserved as a historical monument. Speak to staff with any questions. The Park can provide a wheelchair for use while visiting the fort. Rental wheelchairs and other conveyances are available from a nearby concession.

Tickets are valid for 7 consecutive days when purchased
