About this activity

Museums of Natural History are always fascinating because you can delve deep into the history of the world, and all that call it home (including those dinosaurs that we know you love!)

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is no different (except for the fact that it's ranked in the top five natural history museums in the entire USA!). If you do love dinosaurs, then you might be excited to know that this particular museum actually has the FIRST T-Rex ever discovered! Can you imagine being that archaeologist that first came across those teeth - eeek!

There are over 20 galleries within the museum - some permanent, and some rotating - so there is always something new to see on your future visits!

There aer a host of topics that the permanent exhibition covers, and each one just as fascinating as the last! Dinosaurs In Their Time actually is the first exhibit in the entire world to create scientifically accurate environments so you can see what the planet really looked like during the Mesozoic Era.

For that bit of sparkle head on over to the Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems where there are over 1,300 of these colorful and impressive pieces to admire. The Benedum Hall of Geology gives kids an insight into the ever changing nature of our planet. There are fossils, exhibits on shaping the earth, and even local Pittsburgh geology.

Wildlife isn't forgotten at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History! There are exhibits on those impressive African wildlife species, as well as those creatures from right under your feet in North America. Kids will love Discovery Basecamp too, where they can use their observation skills, look closely at natural objects and check out some natural objects.

For those still thinking about those very cool fossils, you can have a go at being part of a fossil dig yourself!

With day camps, overnight programs, and FREE family-fun activities, why wouldn't you spend a day here!
