We all know that iconic citrus industry associated with California - so why not head to a place that is preserving the history of it!
The California Citrus State Historic Park is actually reminiscent of a 1900s city park, with it's activity center, picnic areas, and even demonstration groves. It also captures a time when "Citrus was King" in California.
Did you know that it was actually back in 1873 when the US Department of Agriculture changed the history of the state when it sent two small orange trees to a Riverside resident?
These tress grew in perfect soil, in perfect weather, and produced such an incredible flavor that word of this spread and the rest is history!
The park is great to learn all about the historical and cultural history of the industry, with guided tours and a visitor center, but it's also a great place to just enjoy nature! There are picnic areas where you can enjoy some family lunch, and nature and wildlife viewing.
One of the best ways to experience the park are those tours we mentioned. These are FREE guided tours called "Tours and Taste", and take you through the citrus groves where you can learn all about the historic industry, AND taste the fresh fruit right off the tree!
These are available weekends, and spots are limited so make sure you reserve!
Make sure you stop at the museum too, because there are some great interactive exhibitions.
A great insight into the history of California, the California Citrus State Historic Park is park fun AND museum fun all wrapped up into one!
