About this activity

Only 12 miles from Downtown Chicago is Brookfield Zoo - a place where anyone who LOVES animals should visit! This sweet Illinois zoo spread over 216 acres is a great place for the family to visit for the day. It's not only a fun place for kids to experience animals they might never have seen before, but they can really learn all about their habits and habitats - yep, it's educational!

There are a number of exhibits across Brookfield Zoo which really give kids an experience into a large number of species that we are lucky enough to have on our planet!

Never seen a Polar Bear? Now is your chance? Never thought you would see a dolphin up close? Now is your chance! Brookfield Zoo has penguins, big cats, primates, giraffes, wolves, and even those very strange looking creatures the Wombat and Kangaroo from... (here's a test - which country are they from? Yep - Australia!)

From eagles, rhinos, zebras and seals, these well cared for animals are all excited to have families and kids visit them.

Children's education is a big part of why Brookfield Zoo do what they do, which is why they have created certain events or programs just for that purpose. The Family Play Programs are great because kids can learn through play, with programs created by early childhood specialists. It's a great way to connect the family with wildlife and nature.

If you have kids that have always wanted to be a zookeepers, then they should definitely check out the Backstage Adventures, where they can work side by side with the zoo keepers as they care for animals like the kangaroos or penguins. From little critters to big animals, there is a backstage adventure just for you! Kids over 8 years old can just choose and animal, and get ready for a very unique experience!

And yes, Brookfield Zoo has events across the year where kids can really have a great time! From Halloween fun, New Years Eve celebrations, to summer party nights and parties for the planet, don't forget to put them in your diary so you don't miss out!
