About this activity

If you want to spend the day in one of the most beautiful state parks in West Virginia (and likely the entire country!) head to Blackwater Falls State Park

Blackwater Falls State Park is actually named after the falls of the Blackwater River whose amber-colored waters plunge five stories (very impressively!) then twist and tumble through an eight-mile long gorge.

When you see them, you will realise why they are one of the most photographed sites in West Virginia. They are beautiful!

Located in the Allegheny Mountains of Tucker County, the main attraction of Blackwater Falls State Park are of course the falls, and these are accessible from steps and several viewing platforms that allow families to enjoy scenic views year-round.

The state park is also a great place for those adventurous families to enjoy some recreational activities too.  Within the park you can enjoy some boating out on the lake, or swimming which is a great welcome in those warmer months!

Kids can enjoy a spot of fishing, or even try their hands at geocaching! It's not just summer fun either, over winter there are a host of snow sports that you can enjoy.

Hikers in the family? Head out on the many trails within the park, or just step outside the parks boundaries to enjoy golf, biking, and even scenic train rides!

If you want to extend your day out, there are camping, cabins, and lodging to choose from.
