About this activity

Kids, did you know that you don't even need to leave Michigan to see animals from all over the world? You just have to head to Binder Park Zoo!

Binder Park Zoo is a family friendly zoo where kids can meet animals up close, as well as learn all about them, their habitats, and conservation - an invaluable lesson.

The zoo, open seasonally from April to October, is where you can meet those tall giraffes, or watch those cheetahs run. There are ancient giants like the tortoise, or the graceful impala running across the plains.

Kids can watch those cheeky prairie dogs play, or feel the magic of the American Black Bear in person. You might even feel like you've gone down under with the kangaroos!

The Conservation Discovery Center is where you can enjoy interactive activities, as well as live animal exhibits, and for those kids who really want that hands-on fun, the Miller Children's Zoo offers some playtime with those cute domestic animals!

Let's not forget about those amazing birds at Binder Park Zoo - kids, can you spot the iconic bald eagle?

To get from one side of the zoo to the other, you can either enjoy a fun 15 minute walk or take a ride on the Wilderness Tram which will take you into the depths of Africa!

With events throughout the year too, it's no wonder families find themselves heading back to Binder Park Zoo again, and again....after all, it really is a WILD day out!

Binder Park Zoo FAQ’s

The zoo is accredited by the AZA, and is home to many Species Survival Plan animals, and they work closely to improve survivability of endangered species

Beulah's Restaurant is in the center of the zoo, and Kalahari Kitchen is in the African Village. Both are perfect for lunch and grabbing snacks!

You can pick up giraffe feed for $1 at Twiga overlook.

Bring that pocket money because the Safari Gift Shop and Zawadi Traders have African inspired souvenirs, as well as animal-themed souvenirs and gifts!

With cams, Big Zoo lessons, school group field trips and even bringing the zoo to you, there are plenty of ways to enjoy that animal education!

If you want to bring your own picnic, you an only eat using the picnic areas in the zoo parking lot

The zoo is accessible, but ramps have a 600lb capacity, and wheelchairs wider than 29.5" won't be able to board the trams

Parking is FREE, as is the tram to Wild Africa. The Z.O&O Railroad is $2 however, as is a ride on the carousel.
