A place where you can step back in time over 150 years? Must be the Historic Benson Grist Mill!
Located in Tooele County in Utah, this fascinating mill was one of the most significant landmarks between Reno and Salt Lake City when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Sites in 1972. (That's a pretty impressive feat!) The mill was constructed in 1854 beside a lovely spring fed pond. The mill was crafted by very skilled artisans out of rock and wood, and it was their mastery that is a giant factor in why it still stands so strong today!
From 1854, the Benson Grist Mill process wheat and corn - and this equipment can still be seen inside the mill during your tours today!
The last bag of flour was ground right up until the 1940s, and was restored in 1983 and is now known as one of the most intact industrial buildings from the pioneer era in the entire state - and now families like you can visit it and enjoy it for itself!
It's not just the Benson Grist Mill to explore. There are other fascinating buildings, like the Bolinder Blacksmith Shop which was built in the 1920's, and the Forsyth Pioneer Cabin which was built by a man for his bride in 1872 - talk about romance!
Keep an eye out for the fun events the Benson Grist Mill hold throughout the year - from Harvest Days, crafts, and shows - they are often very family friendly!
Who said history has to be learnt from a classroom - it’s living right in Utah!

Driving Directions From Salt Lake City
Go Westbound on I-80, about 20 minutes past the Airport. Take Exit 99 to Stansbury Park / Tooele. Go south on SR 36 three miles. After you pass the large rock on your left (Adobe Rock), turn right at the light. The Mill is 1 mile ahead on your right.
Driving Directions From Tooele
Go north on SR 36 about 10 miles, just past Stansbury Park. Turn left onto SR 138 just before Adobe Rock. The Mill is 1 mile ahead on your right.

They have done an excellent job in restoring the Mill, and they will continue to ensure that this very important historical structure remains authentic for future families!
Grab those snacks from the Country Store - the often have lots of treats!
If you wanted to have a birthday party at the mill, there is a pavilion with 12 picnic tables which can be used - and you can decorate it however you like!
There is a super fun Country Store where you can buy handmade gifts, souvenirs, drinks, snacks, and more.
You can always put some healthy snacks and water in your bag to take along if you have dietary requirements.
If you have a mobility difficulty, just give them a call before you visit to see what the restrictions are.
