About this activity

It takes a special person to go to war to defend their country, and at the Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby, the family can learn, read, and experience the stories of these special people.

Best for the older kids, the museum has state of the art exhibits which tell personal stories of the heroines and heroes who served in the wars to ensure future generations have the freedom and prosperity that we all know today.

The Armed Forces Museum is the state's ONLY state-operated museum which is entirely dedicated to military history. There is 16,000 square feet housing over 15,000 artifacts that represent all branches of the military.

You family can walk back through time and experience the history through unique dioramas and exhibits. The exhibits cover topics such as the Second World War, Korean War, Vietnam War and the First World War. There is also an exhibit where kids can get up close to the Medals of Honor that were awarded to those brave souls who sacrificed their lives.

It's a museum to inspire! Kids - what kind of stories do you think you will be reading about at the museum? As you walk round, try and really put yourself in their shoes. How would they feel? What would they be thinking? It's a great way for kids to realize that with history, there are real people attached and not just numbers and statistics.

History comes to life as the stories still live and breath in the halls of the Armed Forces Museum in Mississippi. An educational and fascinating day out for the family!
