About this activity

Have you always wondered what it would be like to travel through time Well you can do just that with a visit to the Amelia Island Museum of History. For your time travel adventure, your journey starts in the year 1791 and make its final voyage to the year 1900. Along the way you will encounter pirates, soldiers, fishermen and even a Victorian Lady! Are you intrigued, because you should be!

Housed in the former Nassau County Jail, the Amelia Island Museum of History offers an educational experience for all interests and age levels, through a number of tours that tell the rich story of Amelia Island and its surrounding area.

The exhibits within the museum are just bursting with stories that are just waiting to be enjoyed by all who visit!

Why not start with events that happened 4000 years ago on the island? You can learn about the area's first residents at the Timucuan Village exhibit, and see how the Timucuan people once lived.

The history of Nassau County is also explored, with exhibits outlining the fascinating personalities that were part of the regions development, as well as an exhibit featuring artifacts related to the Spanish Mission Prior of Nassau County too.

The Civil War history is covered in a dual exhibit examining the conflict on Amelia Island, as well as the impact on one of the state's greatest statesmen, and kids can learn about all the industries that have helped develop the Nassau County region!

We mention the museum is housed in an old jail, so kids can explore a recreated jail cell, and learn about life as an inmate!

Are you ready to spend your next family day out exploring 4000 years?
