The Alaska Museum of Science and Nature is a hidden gem in Anchorage, offering a number of hands-on science and natural history based exhibits where kids can all about the marvels of our planet, and its history!
Kids can explore a whole range of dinosaurs, and even see a full size pterosaur, along with a range of bones, teeth, claws, and even eggs!
They can journey back into the Ice Age and come face to face with a Wooly Mammoth and an Ice Age Bear, or they can explore Alaska marine life with a full Beluga whale skeleton, ancient whalebone and plenty of modern marine life too!
The birds of Alaska are represented with sea birds in their rookery, but owls, eagles, loons and geese, and you can even discover the dinosaur-bird connection too!
Bare Bones exhibit offers a comparison of bones of numerous modern and ancient animals, and you can even see early hominid skulls from Africa! What do you think the differences are between human and animal bones? Here you can find out!
There's hands-on fun for kids here too with a touch table so they can explore, draw and connect bones!
Don't forget to journey UNDER the Earth at the Rocks & Minerals exhibit, with an extensive collection of Alaskan and exotic rocks, minerals and fossils - and make sure you check out the stunning multi-colored minerals, meteorites and fluorescent rocks too!
