Goodrich Castle

Goodrich Castle stands in open countryside, just above the River Qye and is one of the best preserved English medieval castles! It has lots of history to discover, views from the battlements and is a great day out for the whole family. 

Learn all about the famous Civil War Siege and see the murder holes built into the castle walls and admire the stained glass windows! There's also the famour Roaring Meg which is the only surviving Civil War mortar plus lots of Vivil War artefacts from the 1646 siege located at the visitor centre. 

You'll be able to pick up a free adui guide to listen to the eventful past as you take a stroll through the grounds.Discover the stories that partially destroyed the castle and imagine what the castle was like hundreds of years ago! 

At the castle you'll be able to pick up a copy of a free family game which features cartoon characters of people who lived at Goodrich and you can think about how they have answered your questions! It's a great interactive game that will immerse you in the history. 

Why not climb up the castle steps to the top of the tower and see the beautiful views from the surrounding countryside. See if you spot the wildlife too as you may see some blackbirds and robins!
