About this activity

Canada is made up of lots and lots of diverse cultures - all of which make Canada what is it today! So it's only fitting that there is a museum that is dedicated to one of those cultures - Norwegian!

The Norweigan Laft Hus Museum is an invaluable experience for families and kids who want to explore another culture, and see how their traditional culture, and those of Canadians, have blended.

The museum is a place where people can learn, share knowledge, and experience a different way of life first hand. Originally built to be part of an international village, the museum now acts as a place where the Norwegian-Canadian culture can be enjoyed!

It's a place where kids can understand and appreciate the cultural heritage of Canada, and it creates a greater understanding of the world.

During your time at the museum, you can grab an activity book that is filled with information and activities that will enhance your visit at the Norwegian Laft Hus Museum too!

Did you know that whilst the museum is dedicated to this culture, there aren't actually many first generation Norwegians in Red Deer, because when the majority of the immigration from Scandinavia occurred, Red Deer wasn't even properly established yet!

Then, in the 1900s, the second generations began to head to Red Deer, which is why there is a huge Scandinavian influence in Alberta. Just look at some of the city names and foods!

It's facts like these that the kids can really learn, and get the most out of their day. They can learn about life as an immigrant, and the development of Red Deer and surrounding Alberta towns. History, culture, turn of the century life - all things that you COULD learn in a book, but why not experience it first hand at this great Alberta museum!
