The Kootenay Gallery of Art, History and Science, located in Castlegar, is a public art gallery that serves the entire West Kootenay Region. So for those older kids who want to be inspired, or love art, or even those families who love to support the local community - it could be for you!
The great thing about The Kootenay Gallery, is that the exhibitions are always changing, which means you can always see something new! It's always fun to just turn up and see what's on - you never know what you might be about to experience!
The gallery is one of the 28 original exhibition centres built in the 1970s so that rural people could enjoy the great works of art, sourced regionally, nationally and internationally. It was also set up so regional artists to show and sell their work.
Which means they really are supporting the community, which we love!
Kids will be able to see that "art" covers so many genres, from paintings, to sculptures, to drawings, and sometimes even artwork from kids their own age are displayed.
Perhaps they can see their own artwork hanging on the walls one day!
In addition to the internal galleries, outside you can explore the Gallery Gardens. Here, the Butterfly Gardens and the Xeriscape Gardens can not only be a great way to enjoy the sun, but also learn about conservation and the environment.
Art fun for those curious and creative kids on your next family day out is waiting!
Located across from the Castlegar Regional Airport, just past the Doukhobor Discovery Centre.
