If you want adventure, and to really explore an area of Canada that not many people would visit, then Qaummaarviit Terrirotial Park might just be for you. Located 12km from Iqaluit, this incredible rocky island's name means "the place that shines" in Inuktitut.
The park is FILLED with history, and finding have even dated back to 1000AD, which is incredible!
The artifacts founds from the Thule culture show how remarkable people lived in such an environment, and gives kids an insight into how people lived back in time. The rocky landscape will amaze you, and look out for the patches of lush vegetation that are within it.
It's in these that you can actually see the remains of 11 sod houses, to really show case how people lived!
The best way to see the island is a tour, and it's history, landscapes, and culture!
Did you know that over 3,000 tools, and over 20,000 bones have been excavated within the Qaummaarviit Territorial Park since archaeologists started looking?
They found sled runners and dog harness equipment, and even skin boats! There are household artifacts found like needles and toys, and it's all there to be learnt during your visit!
