About this activity

The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre is a great place to visit if you want to take your kids to learn all about history, culture, and heritage. It's here, in the charming town of Yellowknife, that the family can explore collections that showcase the culture and heritage of the Northwest Territories.

And there is a lot to learn, it's a fascinating place!

The collections include a range of items, from clothing, hunting tools, and working tool, which showcase the life of those who live, and lived, in the area.  You can see paintings and sculptures, that showcase how important art is within this region, and how it's changed over the years.

Perhaps it might inspire you to get creative too!

The collections at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre also have geologicial samples, so you really get a full understanding of the NWT.

Collections are rotated in and out of storage, so no two trips will be the same. A new permanent element is the traditional garment display, utilising muskrats, caribou, and polar bears!

You never know, you might even spot some amazing wildlife around your trip to the centre too!

Tours are available, upon request, to school groups, out of town visitors and guests, so why not make this fascinating place a part of your next family day out!
