Lester Garland House is a large, brick Georgian residence has been reconstructed to be used as a museum and education centre to rekindle, promote and celebrate the strong historical and cultural links between Newfoundland and the west of England, especially those between Trinity and Dorset.
You'll get to discover the historic links between Poole and Trinity and the role Trinity has as a centre of trade in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Copies of original diary have been made available to the society to help depict what life was really like back then. All aspects of social, economic, commercial, education, medical, cultural and political history have all been documented and researched, so make sure you check out their archival materials on your visit too.
Samples of all the types of interior finishings and furnishings from the house were saved and assembled and photo reproductions have been collected and made available. The archival materials include the original plans for the house and other diaries. Even the samples of mortar and brickwork have been analysed!
The house incorporates the original stone foundations and the rebuilding are all based on the archival materials. The building has been restored to represent the historical periods of the different structures.
