Fort Walsh National Historic Site allows you to discover and experience life ni the 1870's! the histroic site served from 1878 to 1882 as the headquarters of the North West Mounted Police, whilst the surrounding Cypress Hills continued to be a meeting place and crossroad for many different people in the area.
You'll be able to meet costumed staff that tell true stories of the days when the Fort range with canon fire. Hike the numerous trails or go on bike and cycle across the paths through the forests and hilltops. In July and August they run an Indigenous Culture Camp at the park, where you can learn more about the people who have called the Cypress Hills their home for centuries. There's also lots of activities for the children, where they can collection cool souvenirs with Xplore adventure packs.
If you're a school, they run lots of hands on activities and programs where you'll get to learn first-hand about the role of Fort Walsh. The interpreters will use lots of techniques to deliver important messages including role-play, demonstrations, skits and more which are all designed to be educational and fun!
Fort Walsh is in Saskatchewan, an hour by road from Medicine Hat and 3.5 hours from Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina and Great Falls, Montana. The Fort is 55km south on Hwy 21 from the Trans-Canada Highway.
